This course is available for all learners who want to study AWLS

NOTE: Lectures will begin Thursday night April 3rd in Salt Lake City. The course will begin Tuesday morning April 1st in Moab for outdoor practical skills. Normally we have started lectures in Salt Lake on Monday night, but campground reservations were changed. We have the campground reserved Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Moab. (Check in March 31 and check out the morning of April 3rd) If you want to go to Moab and have fun the weekend before that, you will get your own reservations. We will have a practical skills session in Salt Lake City. The date will be determined later.

This is an in person course so we like the students to be in class for small group sessions and other outdoor activities. If you cannot attend we will provide zoom for the times we have a lecture rather than being outside or in a small group.

AWLS certification

To earn the AWLS certification, students must pass the AWLS exam and the AWLS practical skills exam. The AWLS certification exam is given on line and the code to take the exam will be given later in the course. The test can be taken by clicking on the test icon to the right. You can start studying at anytime by following the guidelines at www.wildmedu.org

You will be required to take one session of practical skills.  They can be done online or in person. The practical skills will be given in in person either in Moab or Salt Lake City or online at www.wildmedu,org . We will have sign up sheets and give locations and instructions closer to when the course starts if you are taking it in person.

THE COURSE WILL BEGIN IN MOAB ON TUESDAY MORNING APRIL 1ST 2025. We have the compounds the night before. If you want to go to Moab the weekend before, please do and have fun. You will need to get your own campground.

Lectures will start in Salt Lake City on Friday night April 4th. We do not have the campground on Thursday night. We know, however, some you will want to be down there. There will be lectures on Saturday night April 5th.

Lectures

We will give live lectures at the University of Utah school of Medicine. This material is already available on line as textbooks, podcasts and practice tests at www.wildmedu.org. You should study these materials as outlined on the site in addition to coming to lectures. If you need CME, you can get this by studying this material online. Refer to the home page of www.wildmedu.org The to ‘How to obtain CME”

Practical Skills: You will need to be IN PERSON for these. Practical skills will be taught on Moab, Utah on Tuesday April 1st. We have the campgrounds on Monday March 31, Tuesday April 1 and Wednesday April 2, 2025. You can be there for these 3 days. We will have a practical skills session in Salt Lake as well. We can figure that out after the class has started.as It is weather dependent. Please click on the links below for more details.

Costs: There are no official additional costs for this course for students registered through VSAS. . If you go to Moab, we have reserved a camp site on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night. We also have dinner for one of the nights. You will need to share gas costs or the cost of extra food, or other costs of travel.

Housing: Housing is not provided for the coures in Salt Lake, but there are many options. As we get closer to the course, we can have you communicate with others in the course for shared housing. Also, there are typical housing options.
